Guide to Tenerife
Cheap Hotels Tenerife
The unique black sand beaches, laid back atmosphere and vibrant nightlife attracts
a vast array of tourists to the popular Canary island of Tenerife every year, but
there is much more to this jewel in the Mediterranean than first meets the eye.
Resorts on the South West of the Island such as Los Cristianos are great for young
children and families looking for a relaxing holiday. Tenerife is renowned for its
stunning scenery so why not venture up to Mount Teide for a romantic break with
terrific views.

If you’re looking for a more vibrant nightlife, Playa De Las Americas
has a wide range of pubs, bars and clubs. Tenerife is a volcanic island so the sand
is naturally black. However, some beaches such as Teresitas Beach in Santa Cruz
have white sands imported from the Sahara, so you get the best of both worlds! Another
must-see is the Martiánez Pond which are man made pools containing sea water that
you can swim in, and there are special pools for children situated in Puerto De
La Cruz.
There is a wide range of activities to sample including fishing, water
sports and climbing to name but a few. A visit the Aqua Park is a highly recommended
day out for everybody who visits the island but if water slides aren’t your cup
of tea, why not visit Loro Parque, the islands second biggest attraction, a parrot
and wildlife reserve hosting sea-lion and dolphin shows amongst a diverse mix of
other animals. If you enjoy getting a bargain then don’t forget that Tenerife is
partly tax free so tobacco, spirits and perfume are cheaper than on the continent,
and electrical items are also great value.
The best shopping districts to grab yourself
a bargain are Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz but remember to plan your day around
the siesta and take some time to enjoy a traditional local lunch at one of the many
cafes and restaurants. The island still holds carnivals and festivals throughout
the year in various parts of the island which have been a tradition for many years.
October to December is Opera season which is incredibly popular and can add culture
and diversity to your holiday. Traditional cuisine consists mainly of Spanish tapas
and fresh local foods such as fish, meat and vegetables cooked in stews and casseroles.
If you want a taste of the real Tenerife then why not visit La Ganania restaurant
in Puerto de la Cruz which won Best Chef Award in 2007 and is excellent value for
money. There are many restaurants serving a wide variety of food to suit all tastes,
from Krishna’s highly recommended Indian restaurant in Los Gigantes to Italian food
at Piccolo in Los Cristianos.
The accommodation available is also as varied with
5* luxury in the South and Puerto de la Cruz to cheap and cheerful budget accommodation
for those travelling on a shoe string.
